September Program a Great Success

GACH recently hosted a very useful, informative presentation for parents and teachers on the social and emotional needs of gifted learners.  Our guest speaker at the September 20 program was Dr. Elizabeth Shaunessy, Assistant Professor and Gifted Program Coordinator at USF.  She spoke for an hour on topics such as perfectionism, coping, overexcitabilities and asynchronous development.  The room-full of parents and educators took away valuable insights into what’s normal for gifted children and when interventions might be necessary.  We also benefited from her advice on working diplomatically with teachers and administrators to meet our children’s needs.  Dr. Shaunessy graciously answered a number of questions from parents after her talk, and received a long round of grateful applause from the eager audience.
